Quality of life among nurses with dysmenorrhea at the institute of nursing sciences, Khyber Medical University Peshawar

Introduction: Dysmenorrhea is a painful with cramps menstrual cycle along with other symptoms like nausea, headache, diarrhea, vomiting and sweating. It is related with the absentees from school or college and bad quality of life of the female. Objective: The main objective of this study was to assess prevalence of dysmenorrhea at the Institute of Nursing Sciences and to determine quality of life among nursing students with dysmenorrhea at the Institute of Nursing Sciences Khyber Medical University. Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted out at the Institute of Nursing Sciences, Khyber Medical University. The study was approved from ethical review board of Khyber Medical University. A total of Overall, 179 women were included in the study following the inclusion and exclusion criteria following Censes method. Data was collected via WHOQOL BREF Questionnaire and analyzed using SPSS version 22. Results: A total of 179 participants were participated in the study. The mean age of the participants was 25.58 years. The majority (60.3%) of the participants were dysmenorrhea. The majority (63.5%) participants reported dysmenorrhea in age group 18-25 years. 63.4% participants reported dysmenorrhea among unmarried participants. In the level of education category, generic, PRN and MSN were seventy-eight (64.5%), twenty-one (48.8%) and nine (60%) respectively in participants of dysmenorrhea. An insignificant relationship of (p-value =.377) between dysmenorrhea and QOL. Conclusion: In conclusion, there is high prevalence of dysmenorrhea with severe lower abdominal pain in nursing students but insignificant relationship between dysmenorrhea and QOL. Unmarried was found to be an insignificant but one of high risk factor to have dysmenorrhea.
